The Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA, www.ichelp.org), representing the estimated 4 million men, women, and children with interstitial cystitis (IC), is the only nonprofit association solely dedicated to the improvement of healthcare and quality of life for people with IC. The ICA provides advocacy, research funding, and education to ensure optimal care with dignity for people with IC. The attached document includes ICA public comment, as well as the testimony of 28 people with IC. As this group explains in their own words, IC patients are eager to work and live normal lives; however a continual struggle with pain and discomfort may inhibit their ability to fully contribute. The impact of this debilitating condition translates for far too many to an inability to perform work duties. Social Security Disability Insurance provides an essential safety net for these patients.
