Thank you for the opportunity to review and comment on Federal Register Notice SSA-2010-0066, Social Security Administration’s (SSA) request for comment on an Occupational Information System (OIS) development and planning. As you will note from our comments below, we would recommend that the SSA begin the planning endeavor by exploring extensive occupational research and development by the Department of Labor related to the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) in the last two decades. We believe that you may find your needs met in large part by the extensive research and statistically valid efforts of the O*NET program. Ideally the program would benefit if you leverage this existing body of work, recently validated by the National Academies of Science, rather than starting your research effort from scratch.
