We are evolving as a people, we recognize when our wording is hurtful, negative, and slandering a population, especially a vulnerable population, that sometimes cannot advocate for themselves, therefore we must. One can judge a country as to how they treat there most vulnerable populations...we are a country of compassion, resolution, and always moving forward for the better...
As a professional nurse and a mother of a child with Down Syndrome, I cringe when a fellow professional uses the "R" word, there are better adjectives we may use...let's challenge each other to do so...
I am delighted and support this proposed rule: Changes in Terminology: Mental Retardation to Intellectual Disability...
It shows our ever changing capacity to want to do better as a nation!
