I have no problem with adding the proposed nutritional information to the labels on alcoholic products, but I think the consumer will find that the information is fairly standard within product categories (beer, wine, gin, etc.) and that the general information they already receive from nutritionists regarding calories, carbohydrates, etc., in these products is pretty accurate. What the consumer could really benefit from is a requirement that restaurants (from fast food up through fine dining) provide similar information for the foods they serve on their menus. A glass of wine containing 100 calories and no fat is less of a threat to the public's health than fried chicken accompanied by fried potatoes and vegetables with a cheese sauce and maybe even the fruit smoothie that everyone thinks is so healthful.
