I am writing in support of the establishment of the "Wisconsin Ledge" Viticultural Area. The unique conditions of the proposed area created by the ledge soils and marine climatic conditions provide superior and unique growing conditions for wine grapes. At our vineyard in Manitowoc County we enjoy the benefits of the extended growing season for fruit ripening and the moderating effect Lake Michigan and the surrounding waters have on temperature in the vineyard. Many of the wineries located withing the proposed Wisconsin Ledge AVA are willing to buy and it is our intent to sell our wine grapes to these wineries. We feel this enhances the customer experience particularily in light of the locally grown movement. The Wisconsin Ledge will solidfy this effort - Thanks. Randal K.
