It is my distinct honor to provide comment in support of the designation of the “Wisconsin Ledge” American Viticultural Area. As a lifelong resident of Calumet County in Northeast Wisconsin, I understand and appreciate the unique and bountiful nature of the Niagara Escarpment. Known locally as “The Ledge,” the Niagara Escarpment has a long tradition of being a top agricultural area. In recent years, it has become home to a rapidly growing viticulture industry and is an increasingly popular wine producing region. Viticulture and wine production are well-suited to the lands along the Niagara Escarpment, and the designation of a specific viticulture area within the footprint of the Escarpment in Wisconsin is well-justified. Again, designation of the “Wisconsin Ledge” American Viticultural Area has my full support.
