I do not think the name "Middleburg" fairly represents the area proposed in the AVA. Middleburg is a small town and is generally known for horses. If the AVA is inclusive of the entire area proposed, a more general name including the term Northern Virginia or Greater Loudoun are examples of general names that define this area. Otherwise it would be appropriate to reduce the size of the AVA to include a much smaller area just around Middleburg.
We have been in discussions to create an AVA with other wineries in our area and were not aware of this proposed AVA. I would be very disappointed if the creation of this AVA restricted our ability to create an AVA that more closely represents our community.
