We completely support the recognition of Cachaça as a distinct and unique product of Brazil. Historically, Cachaça is the legitimate first spirit of the Americas, created around 1530, whereas rum was first created in the caribbean approximately 100 years later. Cachaça is the third most consumed spirit in the world, and the national spirit of Brazil. Brazil is becoming more and more relevant on the world stage, and becoming more present in the United States everyday. Americans are discovering Brazilian culture, and this includes its national spirit Cachaça and the national cocktail, the Caipirinha, which is popping up on cocktail menu throughout the country. It's a great moment for the United States to recognize Cachaça as a unique product of Brazil, giving Brazil the respect it deserves.
