Comment 3: Swanson, Paula Reed

I am writing to urge the approval of the formation of a new AVA for the Elkton area. We are currently associated with Umpqua Valley production, but our geology yields different soil, and our climate has more marine influence; thus, we can produce some different varietals, and our wines have a character unlike others produced in Oregon. Having our own appelation would better characterize our product for consumers, highlight our region for expansion of new vineyards, and encourage commerce in our area. Identification of Elkton as a distinct wine production area would be a positive move for everyone involved. Sincerely, Paula Swanson Elkton City Council
