This Proposed Rule should be approved. The Rule would, as noted in the proposal, result in numerous benefits to any and all parties involved or interested in the property seizure, the government, and the American public.
Posting notice of property seizure on the internet is infinitely more efficient than posting in various relevant newspapers in certain jurisdictions. FIrst, internet posting will certainly reach a much larger audience than newspaper posting, and will allow individuals around the world to monitor the seizures. This will increase the transparency of the process and let those who are not in the relevant newspapers’ jurisdiction to check on their seized property. It will be easier and faster to post, since all items go directly to the website rather than finding and waiting for a newspaper to publish it. Notably, it is also much less costly. Nearly one million dollars will be saved by the implementation of this rule. Furthermore, some seizures can still be posted in newspapers if deemed relevant or necessary. There are no important downsides, as even an individual without a personal internet connection can undoubtedly find a way to connect to the website if necessary. I support the approval of this Proposed Rule.
