To whom it may concern, According to Chapter 3, Section A.6 of COMDTINST M16790.1G (Auxiliary Manual) "Individuals are NOT eligible for enrollment in the Auxiliary when prior military service with a DD-214 that reflects a reenlistment code of RE-4". Although limited circumstance may warrant a wavier. I believe a military reenlistment code or character of service (expect dishonorable discharge) should not be grounds for ineligibility to continue to serve. An increasing number of veterans are receiving unfavorable characterizations of service due to minor misconduct, most likely caused by occupational stress. Many veterans, although ineligible to reenlist as an active duty member of the military, would still take pleasure in the possible opportunity to volunteer with the outstanding Coast Guard Auxiliary. Please consider this current regulation and ways to allow more volunteers to join your ranks. Very Respectfully.
