As IMO guidlines specifiy a sample volume of 3 x 1 m3 for verification of 50 um organisms, how much sample is required for USCG standard to verify 50um organisms (less than 1 per 100 m3) ? If i look at the current requirements, USCG should require 1000 m3 of sampling water to detect an average of less than 1 organsim per 100 m3. (50 um). That's 30 truckloads of sampling water ! Has this been considered when proposing these standards and who will examine these kind of samples ?
