Please make sure that liabilities are adjusted to reflect inflationary costs. With the
rush to open more and more areas to drilling, it is imperitive that in the event of
spills or other pollution the polluters bear the cost of the clean up and
reimbursement of economic loss to communities because of their actions. The
lesson to be learned from the travesty of the Exxon Valdez is that polluters will
not automatically do the right thing as the recent court case which was settled
after 20 years shows.
