I question if an ave. of 185 lbs is enough. Your data seems to come from a study published in 2004, which had to be based on pre 2004 data. Many parents and children and other travelers routinely carry backpacks, camera bags, etc. which contribute to the overall load and would not be "checked" baggage. People continue to "super size" their meals and the ave. weight continues to rise. I would recommend a 195 to 200 lb ave. We had a rather tragic loss of many lives on Lake George, NY within the past couple of years due to a capsized vessel, which resulted in many retirees and other tourists drowning. The published cause was overloading and some modifications to the boat which affected stability.
