The protests of the Superferry reflect our citizens objections to a potentially dangerous mode of transportation which is being allowed to operate outside the law and is causing conflict among our islands. The Coast Guard has overstepped it's authority in issuing this regulation without proper processing. The implications of the actions of government officials to propogate the Superferry are one of the main objections to allowing this enterprise to continue. The opinions of the public are not so easily legislated away. The laws and processes were designed to protect us from such blatant travesties of commercialism, and if they cannot, then system will be revised.
