Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OW-2008-0747 On page 15544 of the Mar 29 2010 Federal Register “Fluoride is unique because of its beneficial effects at low level exposures” The latest of many studies, the July 2009 JADA has an article that shows there is NO difference in cavities no matter what the water fluoride level is. In studies going back as far as 1940, they all show that the more fluoride that is in the water the more dental fluorosis and the more adults with full dentures. The states with the most water fluoridation have the most people with no teeth. I would think that is an adverse health effect. On the same page, “c. Review Result. The Agency does not believe a revision to the NPDWR for fluoride is appropriate at this time.” The NRC panel found that dental fluorosis IS an adverse effect and that over one percent of the population are affected with severe dental fluorosis when water has one part per million of any fluoride compound in it. The NRC panel also found the MCL on 4 parts per million is NOT protective of health and should be lowered. Also, eleven Environmental Protection Agency employee unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals called for a moratorium on drinking water fluoridation programs across the country, and have asked EPA management to recognize fluoride as posing a serious risk of causing cancer in people. The European Court of Justice in 2005 ruled that fluoride is a medicine and that NO food can be imported to any EU state that was processed using fluoridated water. Fluoride toxicity is between lead and arsenic and their MCLGs are lead=0, arsnic=0 My belief is the MCLG and SMCL of fluoride in water should be 0 I had the impression that the EPA is supposed to protect the health of everybody.
