I strongly object to disestablishing the Ashley River Anchorage Area 2 until such time as the present issue of sunken and abandond vessels in this and other Anchorage Areas is appropriately dealt with. I believe the vessels currently abandond and sunken in this Anchorage Area have already created significant pollution and degredation of the adjacent submerged bottoms. Once cleaned up, these areas still take many years to heal from the abuse. It has been publically reported that neither the Federal or State Government presently has the financial resources to adequately deal with this problem. Until such time as those resources become available and some visable action to deal with sunken and abandond vessels is observed, I fear the disestablishment of this Anchorage will only encourage the creation of an alternate abandond vessel anchorage somewhere else in our local rivers or estuaries. Presently I do not believe removing this Anchorage best serves the interest and welfare of the general public.
