As someone who recently moved to Charleston, Sc and loves sailing, I feel that the mooring field located on the Ashley River should be maintained and improved. There are very few affordable options for owners of deep draft vessels to keep their boats at a reasonable cost. Perhaps as an alternative to deactivating this fields, an association could be created of interested citizens that could monitor and assist in the maintenance of the field. As the State of South Carolina Department of Natural Resources already has a process for registering mooring via a permit process. Ownership and accountability could be maintained.
