It appears that the county is trying to minimize labor costs incurred by manning
the drawbridge 24/7, an admirable objective. Since the Beesleys Point bridge and
Route 9 are closed to vehicle traffic and don't appear to be anywhere close to
reopening, why don't we keep the bridge raised to an open position and leave it
there until such time that the Route 9 bridge is reopened to vehicle traffic?
This would seem to be a better solution than the one proposed. The boat traffic
isn't impacted at all and the labor costs are reduced by more than the proposed
rule.
