Hood Canal Bridge Openings The major traffic backup is on Hwy 3 headed north. This traffic backs up for miles and stays that way long after the birdge is closed. I believe the major contributor is the stop light at the bridge east. Any thru traffic from Port Gambel stops the Hwy 3 north bound left turn traffic onto the bridge. My experience is the Gambel thru traffic is small compared to the miles of traffic on Hwy 3. Adjusting that stop light to improve the Hwy 3 north bound traffic would ease that problem.
