This comment addresses safety/property damage issues on Onancock Creek. While there are no alternative routing possibilities, there is a need to better control boat wakes. There is a NO WAKE sign posted on green daymarker G"37", which is effective and serves well to inform eastbound boaters of the need to slow down at that point. However, west of and downstream of this marker Onancock Creek remains narrow, as far as red daymarker R"26", where the creek width broadens considerably. The shoreline between these two markers is characterized by substantial residential development, including many docks with small boats tied up. As there is little regard for wake damage shown by many recreational craft in this section of the creek I suggest that a SLOW SPEED - MINIMUM WAKE sign should be affixed on marker R"26", facing eastbound traffc, to improve safety and minimize erosion and property damage from that point east. On the east side of the marker a RESUME SAFE SPEED sign should be affixed so as to be visible to westbound traffic. Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
