I have reviewed a copy of the Federal Register notice of proposed rulemaking to establish a temporary safety zone on the navigable waters off of Nantasket Beach in the vicinity of Hull, MA for a Carnival fireworks display. While it is commendable for the Hull Youth Football to celebrate, there should be other means to promote such celebration besides the discharge of fireworks with toxic chemicals into waters of the United States.
Fireworks contain chemicals including aluminum, ammonium percholorate calcium carbonate carbon, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium (many compunds) strontium, sulphur, and titanium.
The Coast Guard should take its mission of guarding the coast seriously and stop the practice of discharging fireworks into water bodies via fireworks barges.
