The escort tugs are like a tow truck following you down the street. They will be there when the incident happens but will not give you directions to steer out of trouble. With most tug wheelhouse watches working six hours on and six hours off, it makes it difficult to have an extra set of experienced eyes should they be needed in the RNA. The safest and most cost effective solution is Alternative 4. Cheap insurance for the Tug Companies. Two licensed persons would be in the wheelhouse and the Tug Master would not have to worry about going over work hours or fatigue should he encounter rough weather on his voyage prior to entering Buzzards Bay. A pilot is a lot cheaper for the tug company then having an extra licensed officer on the tug all the time. As history has shown, its only a matter of time before another spill happens, somewhere. Take action now to "Save The Bay".
