I fully support waivers for applicants with ICD's. If the applicant has a medical condition that could result in cardiac arrest, it would be FAR better for him/her to have a device that would automatically kick-start the arrested heart. Not to mention the indirect value to passengers/crew in the unlikely event of the captain suffering a cardiac arrest while in command of the vessel! In that instance, I'd much prefer the captain have an ICD than not. Sincerely yours, Francis V Estalilla MD
