I am writing on behalf of Emerson to express our company support for Canada entering into consultations toward joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. Emerson is a widely-diversified manufacturing and technology provider with: • $24.2B in sales in 2011 across 5 Business Platforms: Process Management, Industrial Automation, Network Power, Cilmate Technologies, and Tools & Storage • Sales and/or manufacturing presence in more than 150 countries globally • 59% of sales from outside the U.S. in 2011. International sales have exceeded 50% of sales since 2007. Multilateral free trade among friendly nations and reduction of trade barriers are critical to Emerson’s ability to operate globally. Free trade is beneficial to both U.S. and Canadian manufacturers in stimulating growth, opening exports to new markets and building speed and flexibility in supply chains. Emerson has a strong relationship with the Canadian market: • In 2011, Emerson had over $800M USD in destination sales to Canada across all five of our business platforms, and employed over 900 people in Canada. • Emerson maintains its commitment to growing its Canada business and is actively investing resources for growth and technology development. • Emerson’s supply chains have thousands of products crossing the U.S.-Canada border. Reducing and removing tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade is critical to our ability to produce and sell goods in the Canadian market and worldwide. Emerson values our relationship with Canada as a trading partner and believe they should have a seat at the negotiating table with the U.S. and other nations. Sincerely, Edward L. Monser President and Chief Operating Officer
