Qualifying chronic disability, under 38 CFR 3.317, a medically unexplained chronic multi-symptom illness, such as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome.
The Secretary has now stated these are only guild lines and other a medically unexplained chronic multi-symptom illness should be added. The following is from the CDC on CFS. As noted from the CDC own research, myalgic encephalomyelitis, neurasthenia, multiple chemical sensitivities, and chronic mononucleosis all should be included as a Qualifying chronic disability, under 38 CFR 3.317, a medically unexplained chronic multi-symptom illness.

A number of illnesses have been described that have a similar spectrum of symptoms to CFS. These include fibromyalgia syndrome, myalgic encephalomyelitis, neurasthenia, multiple chemical sensitivities, and chronic mononucleosis. Although these illnesses may present with a primary symptom other than fatigue, chronic fatigue is commonly associated with all of them.
