ALS is a rapid, paralyzing, always fatal disease. The current Rating procedures often cause the Veteran's even more pain and suffering as they are mandated to undergo unnecessary multiple tests and sleep studies. The results are always the same- as ALS progresses rapidly, eventually leading to the same Rating- 100%. One of the symptoms of ALS is Respiratory failure and by exposing Veterans to unnecessary stays in the hospital is also exposing them to the multitude of bacteria's found in Hospitals. Many ALS patients succumb to ALS due to bacteria and infections from hospital stays.
Please consider the millions of dollars that will be saved by eliminating the current rating process and the thousands who will be afforded quality of life for the short time that they have.
Thank you,
MD
