It is imperative that this regulation be approved. I have been trying to get my service dog approved for benefits for almost one year now. There are no defined regulations or guidance to follow and the Prosthetics Section at the Tampa VA Hospital is clueless. My doctor has all the evidence that my dog is a mobility dog but prosthetics continues to submit the application as a psych dog. I have severe mobility issues. My dog keeps me from falling when I lose my balance or my knees go out. As someone with osteoporosis, it's dangerous each time I fall. My dog has saved me from numerous falls. I can not use a cane or a walker due to arthritis in my hands and shoulders. It's easy to walk with the dog. He is well trained and I can wear his leash across my body and not have to "hold" the leash in my hands. He can open doors for me, push buttons for me and many things I am unable to do because of chronic pain issues.
Please approve this regulation for service dogs. It will make a lot of us service dog users more mobile in the community.
