Readjustment counseling for veterans as well as for family members is something that our government needs to mandate and maintain. I believe that this rule will be successfully executed because of the VA's previous involvement in this type of counseling. While this rule does require the VA to provide such counseling, screening for problems regarding to readjustment issues should also be provided. A lot of times veterans feel like they will not have trouble readjusting or are too stubborn to seek such counseling. By having an entity screen and look for signs, it would better serve those who need the help. The rule as is would an optometrist being required to sell glasses, but not knowing who needs glasses. Also, a lot of the problems manifest themselves when they are already thrown in the jungle of everyday life and their lives become too busy to seek such counseling.
On the other hand, providing readjustment counseling for everyone and anyone is very beneficial to society and integrating them into the community. It doesn't exclude any individual because of the length of their service or by their involvement in the service. Everyone can experience their military service differently and providing such services to everyone is a great way to ensure that all veterans' transitional period is successful.
