TTB proposes to amend its regulations concerning the establishment of American viticultural areas (AVAs). The proposed changes address the effect that approval of an AVA may have on established brand names, and clarify the standards for establishing AVAs within AVAs and for preparing, submitting, and processing AVA petitions. We also propose to add statements to the regulations regarding the viticultural significance of established AVA names for wine labeling purposes. COMMENT PERIOD NOW OPEN UNTIL MARCH 20, 2008.
