Details Information

Abstract: In this final rule, TTB is revising its regulations to require the disclosure of the presence of cochineal extract and carmine on the labels of any alcohol beverage product containing one or both of these color additives. This rule responds to a similar rule issued by the Food and Drug Administration. Consumers who are allergic to cochineal extract or carmine will now be able to identify and thus avoid alcohol beverage products that contain these color additives. This rule is effective May 16, 2012, and voluntary compliance may begin immediately. Mandatory compliance will begin on April 16, 2013.
