In this proposed rule, TTB proposes to establish the 7,800-acre "Ballard Canyon" American viticultural area in Santa Barbara County, California. The proposed viticultural area lies entirely within the larger, existing Santa Ynez viticultural area and the multi-county Central Coast viticultural area. TTB is proposing this action in response to a petition filed on behalf of local wine industry members. TTB designates viticultural areas to allow vintners to better describe the origin of their wines and to allow consumers to better identify wines they may purchase. TTB invites comments on this proposed addition to its regulations. Comments are due on or before March 18, 2013.
