AGENCY: Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Treasury.
ACTION: Notice and request for comments.

SUMMARY: The Department of the Treasury, as part of its continuing
effort to reduce paperwork and respondent burden, invites the general
public and other Federal agencies to take this opportunity to comment
on proposed and/or continuing information collections, as required by
the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. Currently, the IRS is soliciting
comments concerning a temporary regulation and cross-reference notice
of proposed rulemaking (FI-72-93)--Mark to Market for Dealers in
Securities.
DATES: Written comments should be received on or before December 11,
1995 to be assured of consideration.

Title: Mark to Market for Dealers in Securities

Regulation Project Number: FI-72-93 NPRM and Temp.
Abstract: This information is required by the IRS to verify
compliance with section 475 of the Internal Revenue Code. This
information will be used to determine whether the amount of tax has
been computed correctly.
Current Actions: There is no change to the collection of
information in this regulation.
Type of Review: Extension
Affected Public: Businesses or other for-profit.
Estimated Number of Respondents: 25,000
Estimated Time Per Respondent: 1 hour
Estimated Total Annual Burden Hours: 25,000 Hours
REQUEST FOR COMMENTS: Comments submitted in response to this notice
will be summarized and/or included in the request for OMB approval. All
comments will become a matter of public record. Written comments should
address the accuracy of the burden estimates and ways to minimize
burden including the use of automated collection techniques or the use
of other forms of information technology, as well as other relevant
aspects of the information collection request.
