I cannot support this proposed rule change. While is seems that getting test results from the lab is a simple matter- there is a lot to be said for the need to add a comment and patient education along with the results. A positive test without explanation will cause undue concern. A negative test may also need further explanation related to the follow up necessary. Patient may feel they do not need afollow up if everything was "Negative." I know I would follow up with a phone call to any patient on whom I order lab tests. But I fear that this will cause and excessive number of panicked phone calls from patients. Also in Kentucky we are required to give certain STI results in person- how will that be affected by this proposal. Lastly, many slightly abnormal results are not an issue to worry about, kidney function level that reflect "low" values but actaully indicate very good kidney function, etc. Again I fear panicked patient. Thank you for your attention.
