I am the practice manager for an internal medicine group comprised of one MD and one ARNP. At this time we are trying to assimilate the cost of the new EHR in both dollars and time. In addition, we are trying to incorporate the new Medicare preventive screenings into our practice. The thought of having to assimilate ICD-10 into our practice is overwhelming. As 80% of our patient population is Medicare we cannot afford to hire any more additional staff, we were forced to hire an additional staff member due to the increasing mandated paperwork and time involved due to the EHR. I think it would be better to postpone the implementation of ICD-10 as smaller practices will not be able to withstand the cost to convert to the new system while trying to convert their practices to the required EHR.
