Carbaryl is one of the very few chemical applications used in tree protection for
forests and urban landscapes. Its wide use and acceptibility is due in part to its
extremely low toxicity to other insects and vertebrates. When applied carefully
and according to its label, it is very effective in preventing and protection
vegetation. The loss of this chemical would be detrimental to many forest land
managers and owners who need alternatives when faced with large insect
outbreaks. The protection of high value trees using carbarly in campgrounds,
vistor centers, vistas, homes, etc. is more economically sensible than other
treatments.
