This change as stated for FAA-2008-0938 is an excellent move. Yet except for horsepower I believe a person attempting to earn a commercial single or multi engine rating should have at least a sign-off for retractable landing gear as well as constant speed engine. I did not understand the need for needing the use of high performance complex aircraft for the commercial rating at the time I earned my rating. This, as stated on the internet statement I received, represents a useless need for a flight school to have and maintain such an aircraft. The time then required in such aircraft lent little to the skill of the pilot. Yet I do recommend at least a sign off by an instructor for a constant speed engine which could be gained on most multi engine training routines. Gordon
