The mechaincal propeller feathering system such as Pipistrel has developed is Simple, low cost, light weight and trouble free. These are four good thiings in aircraft. An automatic system introduces increased weight, cost, complexity and maintenence. The mechanical system fail safe is to the fine pitch position. Any complex automatic system would likely have more troublesom failures.
