In order to reduce interval for the one through the fleet inspection, xe would like to propose to add Borescope inspection per GE SB 72-1385 as an Alternative method Of Compliance to the inspection per GE SB 72-1405(scheduled at next shop visit).
As mentionned in chapter E.Reason(4).Inspection of SB72-1385:" The N°3 bearing packing hole size can be verified by disassembling the fan frame module.Alternatively, the N°3 bearing packing can be inspected, in most cases, via borescope to verify the correct hole size."
As Borescope Inspection per GE SB 72-1385 can be performed on-wing or in the shop (Chapter 3.Accomplishment Instructions .B.(2)) this could be an opportunity to evaluate the number of engines with non-conforming N°3 bearing packing installed without waiting for next shop visit. In this way, each operator could perform either on wing (GE SB 72-1385) or at next shop visit ( GE SB 72-1405 ) whichever occurs first.
To illustrate our proposal,ou could see in attached documents two examples of borescope inspection results . One with large hole diameter (in our case right configuration) and one with a little hole diameter( wrong configuration).
