United Air Lines would like to make the following comments about NPRM 2012-NM-166-AD affecting the 747 APU power feeder cable clamps and adjacent structure. To enable maintenance operations to react to any on-conditions found while performing the structural inspection, would it possible to extend the 14 month compliance time to 18 or 24 months to coincide with established maintenance visits? Since clamp replacement could take place by non-routine maintenance after the service bulletin’s accomplishment and could undo the AD’s mandate, are there any means that this or future AD’s will mandate a process to identify items/areas affected by the respective AD that may be followed by the industry and OEMs so as not to undo the AD? Thank you.
