Many news and research articles have been decrying escalating trends in overdoses and deaths from opioid analgesics and heroin. Yet, rarely is mention made of the fact that there is an effective and safe antidote for such tragedies — naloxone. Isn’t it time to stop the complaining, and conducting pilot studies, and to start using naloxone on a broad scale to finally address and ameliorate the problems?
