When we first became aware of the CARS program our company chose to be proactive and make the most out of what was then an opportunity of unknown size, duration, and level of success. We established a program that was customer/dealer friendly and marketed this program through our managers directly to the auto dealers in our area.
Like all participants, we had more questions than answers, but once the program took off it exploded in size. The end result was our company purchased 632 vehicles in approximately 45 days. We were unable to back away from our commitment to our customers, and are now overwhelmed with the task at hand.
Had the government's original forecast been of 1 billion dollars extending over 4 months been accurate, we would not have any difficulty processing and crushing these cars in the 6 month time frame. The problem was created by the fact that the success level was misjudged and the program expanded 300 percent.
We are asking only for a modest extension of time to complete the processing of these vehicles. While a 6 months extension would be preferred, the 90 days being proposed is critical. We will gladly answer any questions regarding this matter and in the meantime, thank you in advance for considering increasing the processing time.
