Having lived here my entire life of 47 years and watched our oceans, rivers and lakes fall into decay, the fish, seahorses, sea grass, and everything else disappear our only hope is to lessen the impact humans have on what is left of our environment in the hope of saving what is left. I fully support the Marine Sanctuary system. We need to establish no take and no disturb zones all through out the ecosystem. I remember when our rivers and oceans were teaming with fish. Offshore, snapper, grouper and dolphin were endless. The rivers had crab, shrimp, oysters, mangroves, seagrass and the baby fish would had nurseries. Bad development that created runoff, the scum of lake Okeechobee, too many people who hack apart reefs, spear fish, kill everything that moves. Pollution and human taking have devastated the paradise we have. Humans, unless educated, cannot be trusted to protect the paradise we had. Our love for it has destroyed it. Although it seems like a taking, unfortunately, we have no choice. I have pretty much given up fishing and diving because of how things are. So to me, we have to clean up what is on land and at the same time, create NO TAKE ZONES. Not only no take, no recreational or commercial intervention should be allowed. WE need areas where we can study what happens if left alone. Can they regenerate if left untouched by humans? Can these areas create nurseries for other areas? Once it is all gone, it can never come back. At this point, in my opinion, the situation is so bad, why even fish or dive? So at this point, why not protect areas? I am all for it. Do whatever has to be done. It has worked for Deer and turkey on land. Lets save our oceans and rivers.
