1/20/12 Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration U.S. Department of Transportation Docket No. PHMSA-2011-0023 To Whom it may Concern: I am concerned about pipeline safety with natural gas transmission and gathering lines. I live in Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale fairway, where there are a rapidly growing number of pipelines in Class 1 areas. I have a at least 4 pipelines very close to my property line in Brooklyn PA, Susquehanna County. I will have a large compressor less than one mile up my dirt road. The pipelines will be on at least 3 sides of my property. I did not give a ROW or sign any leases with the pipeline companies even though they told me they would be all around me. I am concerned about explosions in my yard as I live in a Class 1 area, where there is not only NO routine inspection but also NO emergency plans. The head of FERC Safety said if an explosion occurs in a Class 1 area, hopefully only the forest and trees burn down. Why is my life and my families and neighbors lives worth less because we live in rural America? S I thank PHMSA for addressing the need to improve pipeline safety as my state, PA, is happy to write me off as collateral damage.
