This proposal will be extremely detrimental to the economy of Alaska. Alaska, especially Southeast Alaska, relies heavily on tourism and the cruise ship industry in the wake of the decimation of our other resource based economies such as the timber and mining industry. While I understand the intent behind the legislation, there are entire communities who have placed enormous amounts of money into infrastructure to accomodate the cruise ship industry. Our ports will be empty and the money wasted. And our small businesses will certainly not survive such legislation; people who have put their entire lives into working in this industry will be destroyed. Please consider the economic impacts on Southeast Alaska.
