I am a retired Navy MCPO/Cryptologist. I love the services and what you offer us and the job that you do. I am also a retired peace officer from California who was officer of the year in 2002 for the California Dept. Fish & Game. I worked extensively with USCG in the San Francisco and Bodega Bay areas, including using my assigned patrol boat to do Homeland Security patrols. I thoroughly understand the need for security. That being said:
There may be some Intel you possess that required the security zone to be established. Not knowing that any validated threats exist, I request that you consider lifting the harbor restriction. IMHO,it is in the best interests of the USCG and the people of Molokai to do so. The "law enforcement" potentially afforded by the USCG, in this case on the wonderful people of Molokai, is too far removed from the reality of what this community is really all about - God fearing and very loving people - people who love each other and their land. Having USCG boats present, armed I presume, is like looking for a "splinter in the eye of Molokaian's" when there may be a "log in someone else's eye," that where there may be real and serious homeland security threats elsewhere.
