As you have already been informed, the interim order on interstate movement of
fish and the restriction thereof from VHS "affected" areas is unworkable, financially
destructive to the industry in those states, impossible to implement, and generally
downright ludicrous. My farms are located within easy traveling distance of
Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, North Carolina, etc.. and I
must compete against those farms. This order prohibits me from competing
against farms in those states by financially costing me without having ANY effect
on the transmission of VHS from the affected area.
With all due respect, this order is like a reaction to a large truck bearing down
on you, and you are worried about the left rear tail light. The transmission of VHS
will be made by fish eating birds or mammals OR the weekend boater who goes
to the affected waters and then brings the boat back home on Monday to his local
lake. Efforts should be concentrated on these modes of transmission and not by
restricting movement from fish farms that have never had the virus, do not have it
now, and will not have it in the future.
This is a badly thought out, poorly structured, feable attempt to do something.
I just do not know what it does.
