I am writing to contest the proposed changes in the fees for consular services. It is wrong to reduce the cost of a family based visa, which is most likely submitted by someone that is in the US and probably working and able to afford the current fee as it stands and increase the fees for the diversity visas. The applicants for the diversity visa I would think are less able to pay the fee and we should work to make the fee relative to the country of origins income levels and not our cost recovery. Why can we not increase the employment based visa higher than the proposed increase. Corporations are applying for these visas and they should offset the cost of the departments infrastructure and security needs. I am also opposed to increase the fee for registering a birth of a us citizen abroad. Our government should want to know where all Americans are and shouldn't charge to register births. I strenuously oppose the introduction of the RFID chips at this time. More research needs to be done to fully understand how this data although it might not contain an individuals personal information and be used to track a travelers frequency of travel and possibly link a database back to individuals. The passport should not be priced to achieve cost recovery since it is required to travel outside of the country and to return. Why don't we just eliminate taxes and make every function of our government a cost recovery endeavor. Thank you.
