Dear Sirs,
In regard to protecting the Hawaiian Hawk, I am not in favor of deregulating its
protection. Removing this animal from the endangered list allows humans to
promote any measure of destroying the natural habitat of this magnificent bird, as
well as actively hunting/killing it.
In my neighborhood, I believe there are pidgeon enthusiasts who have a maligned
view of the Hawaiian Hawk, and I have seen trees fall which contain nests for the
hawk. I also hear air rifles being shot when the hawks are in the air. I have not
been able to identify exactly who is pursuing the hawk here, but I think it would be
wrong to remove protection of the hawk and allow this kind of behavior to go
unpunished.
The Hawaiian Hawk needs our protection from the insanity of humans encroaching
on their natural habitat. The hawk was here before us; we have no right to
extinguish one more creature for the convenience of our concerns.
Sincerely,
Curtis Lee
