I would like to voice my opposition to the proposed hunt of the Eastern Population of Sandhill Cranes. These majestic birds have come back from the brink of extinction. In today's environmental climate I think the people of the US Government should be showing leadership to teach the youth to become stewards of wildlife. The cranes offer an invaluable chance to utilize the species for the purpose of environmental education. Once the cranes are hunted the chance will be lost. As a committed volunteer with USFWS I would like to be able to take the opportunity to study the crane population further. We have much to learn. Another two years of study was recommended by the International Crane Foundation. Is that too much to ask? Please reconsider the position. We are only now beginning to understand the value of other species to the education of our youth.
